More vibrant and welcoming spaces in an Occupational Therapy Service
The Occupational Therapy Service of Fundació La Muntanyeta, is a day care centerfor people with cerebral palsy and related disabilities. It offers rehabilitation programs, assisted therapies and activities aimed at promoting social and occupational inclusion.
The aim of the project was to introduce natural vegetation into the indoor communal areas, creating a more vibrant, pleasant and welcoming environment. Plants add colour, shapes and textures, help soften the space and strengthen the everyday connection with nature. Some studies on therapeutic horticulture involving people with intellectual disabilities have also identified benefits related to emotional well-being, social skills and occupational participation.
To facilitate the integration of vegetation into a space used every day, the planters include a self-watering system that reduces maintenance tasks and supports the healthy development of the plants. The result is a more comfortable and stimulating environment, designed to support the daily experience of both users and professionals.
